1. What attracted you to Red Tent Australia?
Hi I’m Rhonda & I live in the coastal community of Yeppoon which is part of the gorgeous Capricorn Coast in Central Queensland. I first became aware of Red Tent Australia in early 2015 while looking for workshops on astrology for my daughter Nicole. There was a new moon circle at Bayside Red Tent & the guest speaker was all things astrology. Nicole was interested so we registered & attended our very first Red Tent. We met the wonderful Jill Genet (RTA founding member & Bayside RT Facilitator) & other beautiful women & we became Red Tent Goddesses.
At the time I was living & working in the Lockyer Valley (based in Gatton) & my daughter in Norman Park (Brisbane). We would drive the distance to participate. We were keen. When I moved back to Yeppoon in late 2016, I knew I needed to bring Red Tent Australia with me.
2. What is your experience to date?
Sitting in circle with other women is not a new experience for me. I have embraced this with other tribes I am part of. My first experience of the strength & power of a group of women though was from my childhood. I grew up in an extended family of 4 generations & the matriarchs ruled the roost. From my childhood I developed a deep appreciation of my elders & the magick of the phases of womanhood.
On the work front, I am a Social Worker in the NGO mental health area. I have also spent many years working as a Community Development Practitioner & in the youth & disability sectors.
Family wise, I am a wife, mother (of 2 adult children), a grand daughter, daughter, sister, niece, & a crazy Aunt plus a loyal & supportive friend to a number of women who have become my non-blood sisters.
3. What do you hope to bring to your community?
I am very blessed to have opened on 26 March 2017, the first Red Tent in Central Queensland (& the furthest North in Australia), with my daughter Nicole alongside of me who was co-facilitating.
It is an honour to be able to sit in circle with other women & to hold space for each other. We have a lot of laughs & heart felt conversations & enjoy a variety of different circle topics & activities.
I see more circles growing in Central Queensland once the Yeppoon Red Tent takes hold. There will be quarterly workshops along with either a New Moon or Collective Wisdom Circle each month. I am also keen to see a Maidens circle & Wise Women Circle form in the future & some pop up circles to other locations & community events, so other women in different localities can experience a Red Tent Circle.
