1. What attracted you to Red Tent Australia?
Initially, I was attracted for business purposes, and that turned out to be the tip of the iceberg. Having spent a weekend away with a friend and a few of her friends, we were having a conversation about women in business. I had recently decided that after many years of reading cards quietly that I wanted to “get out there” but didn’t know how. My friend’s friend said, “have you heard of Red Tent?” I said, “no what’s that?” She took me along to the Sharing is Caring night. I made a strong connection with a few of the women there that night and I remember thinking maybe I’ll fit in here, maybe this will work for me. I attended a few of the circles and the connections I had made just got stronger and I felt safe. Safe for the first time in a long time. I was home.
2. What is your experience to date?
My experience with Red Tent has been one of connection and support. They embraced me as I am and accepted me into the Tents. I have been a guest speaker, became a corporate member, facilitated a couple of workshops and attended the amazing retreats. Most recently I completed 2 modules of the facilitator training. Until that point, I honestly had no idea of the depth of support and the opportunities that Red Tent had on offer. I sat in training feeling like I had just been awakened. A little shocked and amazed and so excited. The support just keeps coming. This is a movement where women support each other, no judgement. My experience has been real, raw, honest conversations filled with appreciation and acceptance held in a safe, loving, nurturing space that promotes growth and if you choose to grow your business that is an added bonus.
3. What do you hope to bring to your community?
I am really passionate about Carers. My hope is that I will be able to provide support, education, counseling and some relaxation to some very hard working and often exhausted Carers. Helping them to fill their cup first so that they can continue the amazing work they do. I believe that this is what Red Tent offered me and offers to all the women who enter the Tents. I am simply wanting to extend that same privilege to the Carers who have lost supports since changes were made to Carer funding. I am also hoping to offer meditation along with my other gifts to the Red Tent community. I am also really looking forward to being involved with the Red Tent movement and supporting the community with my Red Tent Sisters.
